Manchester City Loss Leaves Liverpool 8 Points Clear
A loss at home to Wolverhampton stuns the defending champions.
Liverpool had a big lead in the Premier League last season and have a solid cushion already for season 2019-20. The Reds are yet to drop a point this term, while on the weekend Manchester City lost at home to Wolverhampton.
With Kevin De Bruyne missing due to a groin injury, City lacked creativity and a makeshift defence was all at sea. When Adama Traore scored his second goal in the closing stages it sealed a famous Wolves win.
Only eight games played means City have plenty of time to reel Liverpool in, just as they did in the closing months of the 2018-19 season.
"So Liverpool is not dropping points and the results are going to dictate what is the situation," said manager Pep Guardiola. "But we are in October, there is still a lot of games, and still a lot of competitions to play."
The concern for City is Liverpool could stretch the lead even further... the Reds face crisis-club Manchester United next up after the international break.
At least De Bruyne and John Stones could be back in action for City soon. But no team has ever been so far behind this early in the season and gone on to win the Premier League.
